Neot Green Mobility and Ember scale up intercity electric mobility in scotland with 100 e-coaches by mid-2026

NGM (Neot Green Mobility) and Ember are joining forces to accelerate the electrification of long-distance transport in Scotland. With 100 vehicles financed via NGM, Ember is now operating the largest electric coach fleet under a single operator in Europe.
NGM, an investment platform specializing in turnkey financing solutions for sustainable mobility, announces a second round of financing to support Ember, Scotland’s all-electric coach operator, in rolling out 60 additional vehicles. This new tranche complements the 40 e-coaches already delivered in March 2025, as part of the second phase of the Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB2).
With more than 100 electric coaches in operation by mid-2026, this is set to  be the largest e-coach fleet operated by a single company in Europe, and a clear point of reference for the technology The financing has been fully structured and deployed via the NGM platform, which brings together public and private capital to support large-scale low-carbon mobility projects.

Enabling long-distance electrification at scale
With a total investment estimated at £50 million, this operation is carried out within the framework of the ScotZEB2 Challenge Fund, the Scottish Government’s flagship programme to accelerate the transition to zero-emission public transport. The project exemplifies how public grants and structured financing can be combined to unlock high-impact solutions on the ground.
“Through NGM, we aim to make ambitious, replicable electric mobility projects possible, both financially and operationally. Intercity electrification is no longer a concept. It’s happening now, in real conditions, and Ember is proving what’s possible through bold execution and operational excellence. We are proud to partner with such a pioneering e-mobility player outlines Philip Valarino, Head of Neot UK & Services Director, Neot.

“I welcome this announcement of 100 new zero-emission coaches, supported by £13 million through ScotZEB 2. This really demonstrates the strength of collaborative working across the bus, coach and finance sectors to deliver new zero-emission routes for Scots and connect towns and cities right across the country. Scotland continues to lead the rest of the UK on zero-emission bus and coach fleet proportionally, and ScotZEB 2 is helping us to achieve this.” Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Transport.

A first-of-its-kind energy and service package
Beyond the size of the fleet, the project stands out thanks to a comprehensive, first-of-its-kind extended battery warranty, tailored to high-mileage, long-distance operations; a unique feature at this scale in the European market.
The vehicles offer up to 500 km of range and have been tested under Scotland’s demanding weather conditions: wind, rain, snow, and sub-zero temperatures; a critical factor for public transport performance in real-world conditions.
“Electric intercity transport works when you engineer the complete technology platform from scratch. The challenge isn’t proving the concept anymore – it’s executing at scale. Our partnership with Neot gives us the capital to scale nationally and then internationally. We’re grateful to have the right partner backing that execution”, clarifies Keith Bradbury, Co-founder of Ember.

A measurable environmental impact
Once fully deployed, the 100-vehicle fleet is expected to avoid up to 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, while improving air quality and reducing noise pollution across Scotland’s intercity corridors. This collaboration between NGM and Ember provides a proven blueprint for replicable long-distance e-mobility.

Driving Economic Impact Across Scotland
The deployment of 100 electric coaches represents a significant economic boost for Scotland’s transport ecosystem. The £50 million investment supported through the ScotZEB2 programme is stimulating local supply chains, from charging and energy infrastructure works to the broader services required to expand and operate depots. The project is contributing to employment opportunities and upskilling, including high‑skilled roles in engineering, operations, and zero‑emission fleet servicing.
The project also brings more than 250 new bus stops onto Ember’s network, strengthening regional connectivity, helping residents, commuters, and visitors access economic opportunities more reliably and affordably.
For rural and semi‑urban communities, the expanded electric network provides a robust economic lifeline, supporting local businesses, tourism flows, and regional development goals. As one of the largest intercity electrification projects in Europe, the Neot–Ember partnership demonstrates how zero‑emission transport can deliver both climate benefits and tangible economic value for the regions it serves.
