Financing of Electric Water Shuttles in Copenhagen

Context
GoCollective (formerly Arriva Danmark) has been operating the three public water transport lines in Copenhagen for over 20 years. In 2019, the operator won Movia’s public tender—the capital’s public transport authority—to deploy a 100% electric fleet, in line with Copenhagen’s carbon neutrality target by 2025.

The challenge
In 2023, GoCollective was acquired by Mutares, a private equity firm. This acquisition required a flexible refinancing solution to ensure the continued operation of the electric water shuttles, while also securing debt capital.

Our solution
Neot Green Mobility (NGM) structured a tailored refinancing solution that enabled GoCollective to maintain the operation of its electric shuttles while benefiting from greater financial flexibility.

The refinancing was completed in parallel with Mutares’ acquisition of Arriva Group’s Danish, Polish, and Serbian operations.

Results & impact

  • Securing a zero-emission fleet: GoCollective will continue to operate its electric water shuttles through 2029, with the option to extend the contract for an additional two years.
  • Contributing to the energy transition: These seven electric water buses play an active role in Copenhagen’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025.
  • Supporting a committed operator: Through this refinancing, GoCollective strengthens its position as a key player in sustainable maritime transport in Denmark.
