Pay-as-you-go truck charging without up-front investments: E.ON, Neot and Mitsui make it easier for companies to switch to e-mobility

The switch to electric commercial vehicles is more relevant than ever, further underlined by the current fuel shortage and rising diesel prices. It is clear that the use of electric trucks is becoming increasingly economically attractive. A new cooperation between energy provider E.ON, financing partner Neot and its strategic shareholder Mitsui is now making the transition easier than ever: Fleet operators receive a tailor-made overall package with Charging-as-a-Service and, depending on customer needs and preferences, Truck-as-a-Service, which simplifies and enables the shift toward electric vehicles. It includes high powered charging infrastructure, customized EV charging tariffs, load management and ongoing operations. Billing for the set-up is based on a fixed rate per charged kilowatt hour.

Everything from a single source – tailored for fleet operators
The offer is aimed at European operators of commercial fleets, notably vans and trucks, who wish to electrify their vehicles without having to deal in detail with the procurement and operation of charging infrastructure, suitable electricity tariffs and billing of charging processes themselves. Depending on individual requirements, the partners also offer electric commercial vehicles as part of a leasing model in addition to the integrated charging set-up. This 360-degree offer allows operators to benefit from a fixed total cost of ownership from the very first kilometer and immediately realise the competitive advantages of electric vehicles. An included asset performance guarantee provides additional assurance.

E.ON, as an experienced technical implementation partner, takes over the planning, construction and operation of the charging infrastructure. Depending on the site and the vehicles’ operating hours, charging stations with a capacity of 50 to 400 kilowatts are used, complemented by load management and classic charging tariffs or flexible tariffs (“Time of Use”) for further cost optimisation. This ensures reliable and efficient operation, tailored to the spatial conditions at the depot, the fleet and the routes of the transport company.

Neot, is a proven asset manager and seasoned financier of e-mobility projects. Through its investment platform, Neot e-motion, the company will provide capital, expertise and value-adding services to the partnership with the overriding aim to make it simpler and economically attractive for transport companies to make the switch to electric.

The kWh-based model ensures transparency and predictable costs

“Especially at the present time, more and more transport companies want to electrify their fleet. Our Charging- and Truck-as-a-Service developed with key partners significantly lowers the barriers to switch to E-Mobility, as no initial investments in a proprietary charging infrastructure are required. Instead, our subscription package provides everything needed for fleet electrification offering a unique and simplified access to a trusted and proven e-mobility ecosystem. Companies thus receive a reliable service with a predictable and transparent cost model for the entire operating period”, says Aurélien Achard, Chief Business Development Officer at Neot.

“The electrification of truck fleets is no longer a technological challenge – success depends on combining vehicles, infrastructure and financing in an integrated and innovative overall concept. For this, we need strong, cross-sector partnerships,” says CEO at E.ON Group Innovation.

“At Mitsui, we are excited to work together with NEoT, our portfolio company and one of the leading E‑Mobility service providers in Europe, and E.ON, a leading energy company in Europe, to deliver turnkey fleet electrification solutions for commercial vehicles. Leveraging our extensive business capabilities across the mobility and energy sectors, Mitsui aims to accelerate the energy transition of the commercial vehicle sector in Europe ”, says Shinichi Ban, General Manager of Battery Solutions Dept. at Mitsui.
